This prize for the best dissertation was awarded for the first time this year to Hanno Kruse (University of Cologne) for his work “Close Neighbors, Separate Lives. An Investigation of Residential Barriers and Bridges to the Social Integration of Young Immigrants in Germany” at the conference of the Academy of Sociology in Constance on September 15, 2019. In the cumulative dissertation, Kruse examines the influence of social spaces on the integration of young people of migrant origin in Germany. The jury (Hartmut Esser, Anette Fasang, Cornelia Kristen & Karl Ulrich Mayer) selected the work defended in Mannheim 2017 from a large number of high-quality submissions.
